Come enjoy the Fort Worth Home and Garden Show at the Fort Worth Convention Center on August 28-30th. Clark Gardens will have a booth and we would love to have some volunteers help us at the booth. In addition to promoting the Gardens, we will be selling books, gift shop items, iris rhizomes and poppy seeds. By volunteering you will have a free pass to attend the show at your leisure. If you are interested please email me at carol@clarkgardens.com. I am scheduling in four hour shifts starting at 9:30 am on Saturday and at 10:30 am on Sunday. Thanks in advance.

Birding in the Gardens is not easy. Not because the birds are hard to find, but because there are so many interesting distractions. The birds are attracted by various plants, water features, and feeders. The plants and water features are major, but welcome, distractions as is also the garden railroad setup. This time of year it’s not uncommon for the phone to ring and the caller asks “Is there anything blooming right now?” Of course we are delighted to tell the caller “Yes, lots of things are blooming!!”
Last Friday I went out with my trusty camera and shot some photos of the plants that are not only blooming but are thriving in this dry summer and 105 degrees. Specifically I wanted to take pictures of the perennials that Lee Ann and the staff have planted and nurtured.
A plant that Clark Gardens is well known for are our cannas. I’m not sure how many varieties we have but I do know that Max hand dug and cleaned about 20,000 rhizomes this winter. Many were sold at the Neil Sperry Show in Arlington in early spring.
